About the work:
This drawing by Romulo Olazo rightly belonged to the things of its times. Back in the mid-1990s, the art scene was considerably smaller, with voices that were mostly non-contrarian to the canon of what was then considered safe contemporary art. This convention has largely faded away when compared to today’s landscape where the onslaught of individualism and experimentation reigns supreme, second only to the commercialism of the art market. But the safeness of the art back then is also comforting. The obvious choice of the subject matter is recurring. The art of those forgotten decades will have its revival someday.
