About the work:
Back in the 1990s, Paul Zafaralla, an old professor of humanities who was once an art critic, told us that an exhaustive search of art books will reveal that Hernando R. Ocampo was the most original of Filipino artists. We have since agreed, disagreed, agreed, well, according to the taste of the times. It has been more than 40 years since Ocampo’s death and his name still manages to catch headlines in the art world. So whether one hates or loves Ocampo, one who has the acquired taste for him will agree that he was working with a deep sense of intuitive mathematics. It is evident in the sampling of his forms as it is evident in the drawing above.
